Sananda is a theatremaker, art-based educator, and curator based in Mumbai, India. Her theatre journey began in 2007 as a lighting designer, eventually transitioning to directing children’s theatre. Her debut play, “In the Cat House,” premiered at the Summertime Festival for children at Prithvi Theatre in 2012. In 2017, she discovered Theatre for the Early Years and has since directed numerous plays for children aged 0 to 6. Her works have been commissioned by institutions like Serendipity Arts Foundation, Think Arts, and Rangashankara. Sananda’s educational practice began in 2009. She has served as an IB DP Theatre Arts Faculty, theatre Facilitator, teacher trainer, and curriculum designer, collaborating with organizations such as Theatre Professionals, Kochi Muziris Biennale, Foundation for Indian Contemporary Arts, Shiv Nadar University, Sphere Arts Education, and Drama School Mumbai. She studied Political Science at St. Xavier’s College, Museology at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahlaya (CSMVS) and Indian Aesthetics at Jnanapravaha, in Mumbai. In addition to her work in theatre and education, Sananda is a trained Odissi dancer, co-curator of the Museum of Ordinary Objects—a moving crowd-sourced museum—and hosts a popular tree walk in Mumbai titled Mumbai Overstory. She currently works at the American School of Bombay, as the curator of the India Sanskriti Center.
