Dramaturgy Strand Leader

Neel leads dramaturgy, ensuring students understand the deeper contexts and meanings behind their work.

Neel Chaudhuri is a playwright and theatre director based in New Delhi. He is a founder member and former Artistic Director of The Tadpole Repertory and a member of Aagaaz. His plays include Godspeed (TFA Award for Creative Writing 2009), Taramandal (The Hindu MetroPlus Playwright Award 2010), Still and Still Moving, and Quicksand. His most recent work includes Morning Broadcast, a series of short sound pieces for Spielart Festival (Munich), Meridian, an interactive audio performance, and Rihla, a play with the Aagaaz Repertory. He has also worked as a sound designer for Jyoti Dogra, Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust and Third Space Collective. Neel is a member of PLUTO, a collective of international theatre directors, whose first collaborative work Black Box, premiered in Buenos Aires in 2020. He is visiting faculty at Ashoka University and the National School of Drama, and is the head of dramaturgy at Drama School Mumbai. Neel has received the Vinod Doshi Fellowship, the Aditya Vikram Birla Kalakiran Puraskar and the Shankar Nag Award for his work in the theatre.
