About Drama School Mumbai
Drama School Mumbai was founded in 2013 to forge a new generation of theatre-makers; actor-creator-entrepreneurs professionally trained to perform and create work to a higher global standard of storytelling. We work with a faculty comprising of the best theatre practitioners, actors, playwrights, directors, theatre designers and producers. Drama School Mumbai also works to promote the awareness of theatre and its processes to a wider audience interested in exploring and understanding the medium for themselves.

English and Hindi are the predominant languages of instruction, depending on the batch, final performances tend to be in Hindi, though there have been English presentations as well
We are in the process of seeking university affiliations and working closely with other institutions. However currently, our course is an independent course without an affiliation.
About the PG Course
The admission process comprises a written application. Applicants need to fill out an application form that is sent to them via email.
- They have to submit their CV along with a detailed outline of their academic background and two letters of reference from individuals who know them in an academic or professional/work capacity.
- A statement of purpose outlining why they want to do this course, and what they hope to achieve from it.
Applications for the PG Program open in March every year. The application fees for the course are ₹1,000/- and are non-refundable. Upon successful completion and submission of the application, candidates are invited for an audition. The auditions happen in three phases consisting of screening, interview round and a group workshop round.
Dedicated advisors are available at the DSM to help the applicants in the process of the application and prep for the audition.
Note: All applications are to be submitted online. We don’t accept handwritten applications or applications received by post.
Applicants need to submit their resume along with two reference letters (from individuals who know them in an academic or professional/work capacity) when filling out the application form.

The PG program is a one-year full-time program. Classes are conducted from Mon-Sat (7:45 am to 6:05 pm). The course begins in the month of July every year.
Yes, international applicants can apply for the PG course at DSM, but there are certain things that they need to figure out before applying.
- Student Visa – We are a private institute and are not recognised with any university, so it won’t be possible for us to help with a student visa. This will have to be an independent process at your end. We are happy to provide documentation to support any visa requirements (within reason) towards this.
- Admission Process – Please do note, applicants will have to appear for an audition process that is conducted at the school. We don’t do Skype auditions unfortunately.
- PG Program:
Age – 21+ years
Qualifications – Graduate/Equivalent level of study or work or life experience
Age – 18+ years
The PG program consists of 18-20 students in a batch.
Is it necessary to have previous experience in theatre or a bachelor's degree in theatre to apply for the program?
It is not necessary to have previous experience in theatre to apply for the program. However, some kind of experience in theatre and performance making will help the applicants through the admission process.
We encourage each and everyone who has an interest in theatre and performing arts to apply for the course.
The fee for this course is ₹4,50,000 (Four lakh fifty thousand rupees)

Our PG course in Acting and Theatre Making is a full-time course that requires total commitment and dedication for the course of the year, so that we may give you all the tools with which to get work after the students graduate. We do not allow students to do work during this period as it will take away from this crucial learning.
Auditions for the PG Course
Our course advisors are available to guide you on the audition process and how to prepare for them. Please write to firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a call with our advisors (Mon to Fri – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm) on any kind of assistance you need regarding the course.
We don’t do Skype auditions for anyone. Applicants who fill the form and are called for an audition, have to come down to Mumbai to give auditions.
The audition panel is not looking for ‘talent’ – they’re looking to see your willingness to learn and how much you will gain from your experience in the school. Come in with the intention to surrender to the process and be vulnerable to the learning at the audition as well.
After successful completion of the application, applicants will be called for an audition.
Audition happens in 3 phases –
Phase 1 – Screening
Phase 2 – Individual Interview
Phase 3 – Group Workshop
- The entire process is covered in a span of 7-8 days.
Scholarships and payments
Are there any scholarships available for the PG course? What are the eligibility criteria for gaining a scholarship?
We offer select scholarships for our Post Graduate Programme.

Our scholarships and fee criteria are the same for all students on our program, however, most patrons and donors to the DSM do focus on Indian students.
Are there any related hidden costs/additional costs that the students will be asked to pay during the course?
No, there are no hidden costs or additional costs. We charge only a one-time fee at the beginning of the course. Students also have an option to pay their fees in instalments.

After the course
Yes, students who successfully complete (all the requirements of the course as stated in the syllabus) the Post Graduate Program at DSM are awarded a certificate at the end of the year.
Yes, students are required to do theatre-making internships as part of the course.
Students who have graduated from DSM in the previous years are working in different areas/sectors in the industry. To know more about our alumni, please see the Alumni section on our website.
The school offers opportunities on various platforms for work and internship. Students who successfully complete their graduation and are interested in working with the school should send in their CV and a letter of intent to the school.
DSM doesn’t provide any kind of residential facilities for the students. Students need to arrange for their own accommodation. However, the school authorities are available to provide any kind of assistance related to their stay in Mumbai. We have a good network of DSM Alumni who are also available to guide the students in case they need help with any logistics related to the course or accommodation in Mumbai.
The school provides students with access to a large network of alumni, faculty and theatre companies, all of whom have further connections into the wider theatre, film and television industry. As part of the course, students are required to complete a one-month internship post their graduation. Many students continue on at the organisations they originally interned with.
The school also provides assistance and guidance in terms of career opportunities and further studies to all its students that could help them build a successful career in Acting and Theatre Making and allied sectors.
Yes, we have a program on mental health and physical well being as part of the course.
Mental health counsellors and psychotherapists are available to the students during their time on the course.
A number of students have gone on to form their own groups and output plays each year. The alumni have many opportunities to create and make work.
The current module consists of a one year PG Course and Foundation and Advanced level workshops. However, if you stay connected to our network via our social media platforms, we do keep posting about other course opportunities there.
At Drama School Mumbai we work only with adults. However, our parent company, Theatre Professionals Education, works schools and education – do connect with them on FB messenger or communication number and they can guide you on where to find these courses.
