About the Facilitator:
Dr Prabhath Bhaskaran has been the Assistant Professor at Pondicherry University. His practice-based study focuses in depth on the Natyasastra’s practical connections to performance energy. Dr Bhaskaran has been working and studying multiple forms in the development of the actors’ autonomy in performance, most notably studying Kalariyapatu since childhood and Japanese Butoh for more than a decade. Prabhath is based out of Japan, where he works exclusively with farmers and artists to understand the natural way of farming, cooking and serving as part of theatre-making.
He has started an after school program for children in Tokigawa village (Japan) and is conducting his practice in oriented research on Tai chi under the guidance of Yag Jin. Dr Bhaskaran has been awarded the University Potential Eligibility award by UGC for his study in Noh theatre in Japan as part of PhD research (2004). He has also received a Gold Medal in MPA Direction at MPA Theatre Arts (2002-04).
The Master Class:
Prabhath will be working on developing a practice-based program for actors/performers in connection with the body’s tendencies to locate and activate its natural energy towards performance.
