PG Certificate Course In Acting & Theatre Making (In-City)

Duration

31 weeks total (including break): 18 weeks intensive residential semester, preceded by 9 weeks of deep preparation work online.

48 weeks total (including break): First semester (30 weeks) + Second semester (18 weeks).

Weekly Structure

Classes run Monday to Friday, including body/voice conditioning, performance training, dramaturgy, and reflection time. Saturdays feature Voice/Self Riyaz and Weekly Creation Tasks (WCTs).

Primary Emphasis

Focus on acting and devising, including acting techniques and ensemble-based collaborative work through devised theatre.

Focus on acting and theatre-making, integrating acting techniques with dramaturgy, directing, and production elements.

Performance Strand

Skills in physical conditioning, vocal training, improvisation, scene study, and script analysis. Techniques include Viewpoints and Suzuki, with ensemble-driven projects as a focus.

Skills in physical conditioning, vocal training, improvisation, scene study, and script analysis, with additional focus on independent creation tasks and ensemble development.

Performance Opportunities

Includes Kelewadi Nights and a final devised public showcase in Mumbai.

Features Madhyantar (mid-semester public showcase), a professionally directed production, and Aadyant (year-end student-led showcases).

Course Approach

Emphasis on creating original devised work and reimagining classic and contemporary texts and approaches to textual analysis. Culminates in a professionally directed, devised production.

Performance and theatre-making, with emphasis on textual analysis, social theatre, and short student-led productions that include writing, directing, and designing under a mentor.

Creation Strand

Weekly Creation Tasks (WCTs) with faculty feedback on weekly creation, Kelewadi nights and Final devised performance showcase in Mumbai often attended by industry professionals

Theatre-Making Labs (TMLs) with weekly presentations, refined pieces showcased publicly in Madhyantar. Annual Productions (established scripts directed by professionals) and Final projects (Aadyant) synthesise all training being performed in Mumbai, often attended by industry professionals

Dramaturgy Strand

Integrated into devising, with a focus on contextual analysis to understand dramatic composition, theatrical representation and Dramaturgy Of Process lectures (DOPs).

Emphasises textual analysis, research, and application to improve original and adapted work. Highlights the role of theatre in society and its impact.

Directing & Writing

Writing for devised theatre using a collaborative approach to storytelling.Focus remains on ensemble-led and collaboratively devised works.

Dedicated writing modules guide students from ideation to realisation of performance scripts, with an emphasis on dramatic storytelling.

Design

Foundational design knowledge is applied in a simulated auditorium setup to understand aspects of make-up, set design, and costume design through applied learning. 

Comprehensive training in set, costume, lighting, sound, makeup, design and opportunity for it to be applied to student-led performances.

Industry Exposure

Regular interaction with faculty and guest artists, focusing on in-depth residential training and post-course integration into Mumbai’s theatre scene.

Frequent engagement with Mumbai’s theatre community, industry events, and collaborations with professionals throughout the acting course.

Networking

Strong bonds within the residential community, fostering lifelong connections with peers and alumni.

Opportunities to network with industry professionals, attend theatre events, and showcase work to expand connections.

(includes Rs 360,000 tuition + Rs 220,000 for room & board during the residency semester).
